UK Islamic Mission - An Introduction

The UK Islamic Mission is a national organisation with over 40 branches and Islamic Centres working across the United Kingdom. The UK Islamic Mission formed in the early 1960's, it has served the Muslim community in particular and has helped to build bridges of understanding and mutual respect across faith communities.

As a national organisation, we organise events at local, regional and national level to improve the understanding of the Muslim beliefs & practices, Islamic teachings, Islamic information, Islamic knowledge. This includes running daily educational classes for the young, weekly activities for teenagers, youth and male/ female adults, seminars for Muslims and other faith communities, exhibitions at schools and libraries, as well as facilitating visits to Mosques (Masajid) and working with interfaith groups throughout the country (England, Scotland and Wales). Furthermore, volunteers of UK Islamic Mission visit hospitals and prisons to help those who are less fortunate than us.

Our doors are open to all, irrespective of individual belief, and we are always encouraging people to come forward and to join us in helping others - Muslims and non-Muslims alike. To this end, why not become a Friend of Mission and start to make a difference today? Whatever you decide, I hope this site gives the information that you are looking for and that you will visit us again. Please also feel free to comment on the site and, if you prefer, on the organisation by any of the means listed under Contact Us.

UKIM Condemns the Proposed Wootton Bassett Protest
The UK Islamic Mission strongly condemns the call for a proposed march in Wooten Basset by the small and extremist group Islam4UK. The very idea of proposing such a thing is quite repugnant and shows great insensitivity to the families of British soldiers who have lost their lives in Afghanistan . We urge fellow citizens to stay united and not let their publicity stunt succeed in creating conflict between our communities in the UK.
The UKIM is an affiliate of the Muslim Council of Britain and it fully supports the following statement released by them to the press on this matter.

Press Release by the MCB
Proposed Wootton Bassett Protest: A Publicity Stunt that Deserves Disdain

The Muslim Council of Britain echoes the sentiments expressed by Allison Bucknell, Mayoress of Wooton Bassett, and condemns the call by the fringe extremist group Islam4UK for their proposed march in Wootton Bassett. This group thrives on controversy and we will do well to ensure we do not grant them the oxygen of publicity they crave.

The overwhelming majority of British Muslims want nothing to do with such extremists. Like other Britons, Muslims are not opposed to Britain 's Armed Forces. Indeed, Muslims have made a deep and historic contribution to this nation's defence, with over 2.5 million serving in the First and Second World Wars. The deaths of those in Afghanistan and other areas of conflicts are not only a concern amongst Muslims, it is shared by other British people, who do not resort to such sensationalist and divisive stunts.

The MCB respects the value of free speech in Britain and echoes the sentiments of many of its affiliates to disregard such provocations. We commend the Wiltshire Islamic Cultural Centre and others for issuing a clear message that this protest is not acceptable and has no support at all by the local Muslim community.
