UKIM is going through a major organisational reform to re-establish itself as an effective civil society organisation and fulfil its mission. The reform includes major changes at governance and executive level and relocating its Head Office from London to Oldham.

 The job holder is expected to provide inclusive and visionary leadership that inspires, engages and motivates employees, supporters and partners. To deliver UKIM’s vision and mission and to develop the organisation’s leading position within UK’s civil society community.

Main Responsibilities: 

  • To be responsible for securing project funding and ensuring monitoring and evaluation of all projects is conducted on a regular basis.
  • To be responsible for developing project strategies and operational plans, building relationships and liaising with partners and field offices.
  • To provide leadership to the Projects Department through clear procedures and processes for meeting strategic objectives of UKIM.
  • To support the Executive Director to strategise and lead on related organisational development activities and projects, for the whole UKIM.
  • Implement, manage and develop Project strategy, operations, risk management strategy, monitoring & evaluation systems and budgets ensuring they are in accordance with UKIM’s global policies, principles and approach.
  • To line manage all volunteer Project Managers in field offices and all employees within the Projects Department at Head Office.
  • To Ensure effective management, support and development of staff and volunteers involved in Project implementation.
  • To visit projects and sub-offices country-wide to oversee and evaluate projects and to encourage, advise and monitor staff.
  • To ensure that UKIM’s financial, administrative and HR policies are adhered to in all projects and by all staff responsible.
  • To proactively seek opportunities for funding through networking with other INGOs, governmental agencies and Foundations and oversee the writing of project proposals.
  • To oversee implementation of donor-funded projects, ensuring delivery meets donor requirements and UKIM’s international and local policies, principles and development approach.
  • To ensure the reports for completion projects are received from implementing partners on time and are analysed at the Head Office for evaluating each partner’s performance and to retain appropriate audit trail.
  • To ensure management and operation information is communicated quickly and efficiently to the Executive Director and Board of Trustees.
  • To carry out annual staff appraisals.
  • To develop UKIM (UK) Programmes and Projects’ emergency response strategy, ensuring that appropriate processes are in place and within the current legislative framework, e.g. funding agreements, financial documentations, etc.
  • To respond to project emergencies using the resources of the Head Office team, field offices and partners individually or collectively.
  • To develop relationship with UK, UN and EU bodies, particularly with DLUHC, UNOCHA, UNICEF and ECHO, with a view to tap on emergency funding for UKIM Projects.
  • To comply with all policies, procedures, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • To be willing to travel extensively with short notice.
  • To respect the unique contribution of every individual and work positively in an equal opportunity and diverse environment.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the accountabilities of the post.

Person Specification:

  • Educated to postgraduate level or equivalent in a development-related subject
  • Relevant experience of working in a similar role within the charity and development sector, including experience of management and leadership.
  • Proven participation in Project assessment, planning, management, monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment skills
  • Experience with programmes of Levelling up, Youth, Women, mental health, Capacity building, WASH, educational, personal, spiritual and professional development, Social justice and Civil Society development, maternal and child health and economic empowerment.
  • Proven experience of funding proposal writing and budget design for projects.
  • Experience of working on donor-funded projects, grant compliance and management
  • Knowledge of SPHERE handbook – 2018 draft version
  • Knowledge of UN-agreed Sustainable Development Goals
  • Knowledge of International Red Cross & Crescent Code of Conduct
  • Knowledge, experience and appreciation of ethnic and religious minority communities and cultures in the UK and public and civil society policies and initiatives in relation to community services/development issues and UKIM Project’s operations
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) essential, second language is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation and administrative abilities
  • Proven finance management skills within projects
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to network and establish links and partnerships with all relevant stakeholders
  • Ability to think and plan strategically.
  • An ability to delegate, follow-up and supervise as well as support.
  • Ability to work well on own initiative.
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines and adapt to change.
  • Ability to communicate cross-culturally
  • Ability to travel in the region, at times in conditions of physical hardship.
  • Commit to withhold the integrity and standards of UKIM, its values, approach and priorities, within all projects.
