Introduction to Mount Kilimanjaro:
Mount Kilimanjaro, the largest free-standing mountain in the world, is the highest mountain in Africa, standing at 5,895 Meters in Tanzania, East Africa. The mountain comprises of three peaks, Kibo, Mwenzi and Shira.
Uhuru Peak is the highest point located on Kibo. There are several routes up the mountain which differ in length. The Marangu Route also known as the Coca Cola route is one of the shorter routes. It’s named the Coca Cola route as it’s the most popular route and supposedly very touristy with huts to sleep in serving coca cola. That being said it should not be underestimated.
Three camps on Marangu route are, Mandara, Horombo and Kibo all have huts which sleep 4-6 people each on comfortable beds. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag. There are bathrooms available with running water, however the last camp Kibo, whilst there are toilets don’t have running water. Marangu route is usually done in 5 days but can be done in 6 days which gives you an extra day for acclimatisation in Horombo,
