The threat of winter puts already struggling countries in even more vulnerable conditions. Millions of lives are lost to treatable viruses and infections that are rife during the winter months. Your donation can help make a difference.
As winter is fast approaching, struggling families are left in the cold, suffering from awful viruses. Your support can help.
Winter poses threat to millions across the globe, including Syrian refugees and Rohingya refugees to name just two. These refugees are in particularly difficult conditions as their displaced status often means that they do not have access to healthcare. This can result in millions dying from the seasonal flu; an illness that is highly curable. Furthermore, the refugee shelters are some of the most crowded places in the world, with 40,000 people per square kilometre, making transmission of these illnesses inevitable.
Not only are refugees forced to fight off viruses, often losing the battle, but they must also live in substandard shelters. These shelters do not keep them warm at the best of times, let alone when temperatures are drastically dropping. In fact, 36% of all neonatal deaths are a result of severe infections that are associated with neonatal hypothermia. Unfortunately, the majority cannot rely on a hot meal to warm them up as their meagre finances do not stretch far enough to provide ample food for their families.
Refugees are not the only ones in danger, with the ongoing Kashmir crisis, Palestine crisis, Yemen crisis, and the poverty-stricken areas of Pakistan and India. Although inhabitants of these places tend to have citizenship, they still cannot access healthcare as they do not have the finances to facilitate this. Many are homeless and hungry and any money they can get their hands on must go towards the basic means of survival. Therefore, millions are starving, cold, unwell, and may not last through the winter.
What Are We Doing to Help?
We use your donations to help India, give aid to Yemen, provide help to poor families in Pakistan, and much more. In aid of winter crises across the globe, including the Syria winter crisis, we provide families with warmth packs, cooked meals, and winter survival packs. In the absence of our Syria winter clothes appeal and the supplying of survival packs, we would see so many more vulnerable people deprived of food, shelter, and healthcare. It is our goal to eliminate these struggles from people’s lives and give them a chance to prosper. We have already made significant progress, helping over 22,000 people in these countries last year alone.
