This fundraiser is being run in the period leading up to 15 October 2026, the fifth anniversary of the death of Sir David Amess. I have intentionally aligned the end date of this fundraiser with that anniversary as a way of honouring his memory through an act of charity rather than words alone.
I created this fundraiser to honour the life and legacy of Sir David Amess, the long-serving Member of Parliament for Southend, whose public service was defined by kindness, humility, and a genuine respect for people of all backgrounds.
I am a Muslim and a former Southend constituent. During my time living in Southend, I personally experienced Sir David’s openness and humanity. He responded thoughtfully to my letters on local and community issues and was widely known for engaging directly with constituents across faiths, cultures, and political views.
As a Muslim, I believe that recognising goodness and honouring those who act with integrity is a moral duty. Islam teaches that gratitude and respect are owed to those who show kindness, regardless of their religion. In that spirit, this fundraiser is intentionally an interfaith gesture — a Muslim-led act of remembrance for a Christian public servant who stood for peace, service, and unity.
I also found personal reassurance in a formal religious opinion issued by the official Fatwa Centre of the United Arab Emirates, which affirms that Islam permits praising and honouring people of other faiths when they have acted with kindness, integrity, or service to others. This understanding reinforced my belief that honouring Sir David’s legacy is fully consistent with my faith.
This fundraiser is not political and does not promote theology. It is a memorial initiative grounded in shared human values and a rejection of hatred and extremism in all forms.
All funds raised through this page go entirely to the selected UKIM charitable appeal, supporting humanitarian work for vulnerable communities. Sir David Amess is not a beneficiary of the funds; his life and example serve as the inspiration for this act of charity.
By contributing, donors are invited to honour Sir David’s memory on the fifth anniversary of his death through compassion, generosity, and an interfaith commitment to peace.
