UKIM's leadership is making the following statement for our members, associate members, stakeholders, and the general public regarding the Leeds Employment Tribunal's decision in relation to the former Imams of Byron Street Mosque.
On 3rd November 2025, the Leeds Employment Tribunal dismissed all the claims of the Claimants related to race discrimination, wrongful dismissal, victimisation and harassment.
The Leeds Employment Tribunal awarded a basic redundancy payment to one of the claimants, which had already been offered to the claimant following the redundancy process adopted by the concerned officials. It should be noted that UKIM's leadership made numerous attempts to reconcile, along with mediation, with the claimants but they chose to exercise their legal right to be heard at the tribunal.
We have learnt that some individual(s) are sharing misleading information on social media platforms about UKIM's role in the case. UKIM refutes all such allegations and rejects those who are attempting to bring the organisation and its leadership into disrepute. The organisation is considering taking appropriate action (including legal action) against anyone who may try to mislead the general public.
UKIM takes pride in its long record of serving communities across the UK with integrity, fairness, and compassion. Employment decisions are never taken lightly, and the organisation remains committed to upholding transparency and due process in all matters.
A UKIM spokesperson said: "We welcome the Tribunal's findings, which confirm that UKIM acted fairly, lawfully, and with integrity. While one narrow procedural point was identified, the overall outcome demonstrates our commitment to doing what is right. Our focus remains on serving our communities through faith, education, and compassion."
