Nepal Floods Emergency

On 26 August, catastrophic flash floods tore through northern Nepal after a glacier collapse sent water, mud and debris through the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli river system. As of 3 September, at least 1,252 people have been reported dead, with more than 4,200 still missing. Around 7,500 homes have been completely destroyed, and approximately 20,000 homes require rebuilding or major recovery support. Around 4,000 displaced people are reported to be living in relief camps.

URGENT APPEAL: SUPPORT FAMILIES EFFECTED BY THIS CATASTROPHIC FLOOD IN NEPAL

On 26 August, catastrophic flash floods tore through northern Nepal after a glacier collapse sent water, mud and debris through the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli river system. As of 3 September, at least 1,252 people have been reported dead, with more than 4,200 still missing. Around 7,500 homes have been completely destroyed, and approximately 20,000 homes require rebuilding or major recovery support. Around 4,000 displaced people are reported to be living in relief camps.

Roads, bridges and water systems have been destroyed or cut off. UNICEF reports that at least 22,000 children urgently need safe water, sanitation and hygiene support. Many survivors escaped with little more than the clothes they were wearing and urgently need food, clean water, clothing and blankets, temporary shelter, hygiene supplies and medical care. Figures remain subject to change as search and assessments continue.

UKIM is launching an urgent Nepal Emergency Flood Appeal to support families affected by this catastrophe. With your leadership, we can provide lifesaving aid including emergency food, clean water, essential clothing, hygiene kits, shelter and medical support.

We request your full support by organising a Jummah fundraising collection on Friday 11th September 2026 in your branch. Please implement the following key actions to maximise the response:

  1. Deliver a short khutbah reminder or announcement highlighting the Nepal flood crisis and encouraging donations.
  2. Display UKIM Emergency Appeal banners/posters in your masjid and social media platforms.
  3. Use contactless and online donation tools to make it easy for attendees to give.
  4. Motivate volunteers and youth groups to help with collection buckets and awareness.
  5. Encourage weekly du'a in congregational prayers for those affected and bereaved.

Let us stand united in this time of urgent need. May Allah (SWT) accept your efforts and bless our collective response to save lives, provide shelter and ease suffering.
