The 29th of Ramadan is typically the last day of the holy month of Ramadan, as the month usually lasts for 29 days, but it can sometimes last for 30 days. It’s also the last day of the last 10 days of Ramadan, which is when the powerful Laylat al-Qadr (The Night of Power) falls. This night is incredibly significant because it’s when the first parts of the Quran were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by the Angel Jibrael. Due to this, the last 10 days of Ramadan are a time for Muslims to seek the night through more acts of worship and dedication to Allah (SWT) than they do throughout the entire month. This is because they hold immense rewards that are better than a thousand months.
Believers increase their worship throughout the whole of the last 10 days to reap the rewards, since there isn’t a specific night known for when the verses of the Quran were revealed to Muhammad (PBUH). The only information Muslims know is that the night took place on the odd-numbered nights, so increasing worship throughout all of the last 10 days maximises the chance of seeking Laylat al-Qadr.
‘Indeed, We revealed [the Qur’an] during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace is until the emergence of dawn.’ (Quran 97:1-5)
As the first verses of the Quran were revealed during this blessed night, Laylat al-Qadr marks the beginning of the core principles of Islam that are still followed to this day. This is why these nights have rewards that are worth more than a thousand months, as well as the night falling in the holy month of Ramadan.
The 29th of Ramadan is important because it marks the last day of the holy month, or the last odd-numbered night. This means that it acts as the final push to seek Laylat al-Qadr and get the most out of Ramadan. Muslims can gain powerful rewards, a deeper connection to Allah (SWT) and come out of the month spiritually renewed.
The Night of Power can fall on any of the last 10 nights of Ramadan, particularly the odd-numbered nights. This means that Laylat al-Qadr could be the 29th of Ramadan. To make sure that you gain the rewards and blessings of this powerful night, we’ve outlined some of the best ways you can make the most of it:
Giving charity on Laylat al-Qadr is a beautiful and virtuous act. The Prophet (PBUH) said:
“The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.”
(Al-Tirmidhi)
One way to reap the rewards of this special night is by donating to charity in these last 10 nights of Ramadan. You can donate to UKIM by choosing to donate once or set up a regular payment, which can ensure that you give to charity on the Night of Power.
Give more on the 29th of Ramadan to seek the rewards of not only the month of Ramadan but Laylat al-Qadr too. Muhammad (PBUH), said:
“Charity does not in any way decrease the wealth and the servant who forgives, Allah adds to his respect; and the one who shows humility, Allah elevates him in the estimation (of the people).”
(Muslim)
There are several UKIM appeals that you can donate to, which will benefit our brothers and sisters greatly around the world who are in need, including those in Kashmir, Pakistan, Gaza and Somalia.
