Jamada Al-Thani

Jamada Al-Thani is the sixth month in the Islamic Hijri calendar. It is sometimes referred to as ‘Jumada Al-Aakhira', translating to ‘the end of the dry season’. This is because this month was traditionally when the land was dry due to the hot weather and lack of water or rain.

The 12 months in the Islamic calendar are Muharram, Safar, Rabi Al-Awwal, Rabi Al-Thani, Jamada Al-Awwal, Jamada Al-Thani, Rajab, Sha’ban, Ramadan, Shawwal, Dhul Qa’dah ad Dhul Hijjah. We should strive to make the most of each of these months by increasing our acts of worship, including Jamada Al-Thani

When is Jamada Al-Thani 2023?

Jamada Al-Thani is expected to begin on 14 December and will end on 22 January 2023.

Significant Events in Jamada Al-Thani

Fatima (RA), the Prophet’s (PBUH) youngest daughter was born on the 20th day of this month, in Makkah. She is an important female figure in Islam and was of the first people to accept Islam.

It was also during this month in which Fatima (RA) passed away, which was just two months after the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) died. Sunni Muslims believe that her death was due to the grief of her father’s death, while Shia Muslims believe she died due to the injuries she sustained when her house was raided, which was ordered by Abu Bakr (RA) after she refused to accept his leadership by saying her husband, Ali (RA) should be the leader.

Abu Bakr is also said to have passed away during this month, on the 22nd day of Jamada Al-Thani. He was a close companion and friend of the Prophet (PBUH), was the first caliph, and became the Prophet's (PBUH) father-in-law. He passed away in 634 AD and was buried next to the Prophet (PBUH) in Madina.
