The 23rd of Ramadan is the 23rd day of the ninth month in the Islamic Calendar. As a result, the date sits among the last 10 nights of Ramadan, giving it the potential to be the Night of Power (or Laylat al-Qadr). As Allah (SWT) revealed the Qur’an to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on this night, it’s a time of increased blessings. Consequently, any rewards that are obtained on the Night of Power are worth that of a thousand months of worshipping.
While the Night of Power is one of the most important days in the Islamic Calendar, it’s not certain upon which date it falls. We know that it falls within the last 10 days of Ramadan and is likely to be on an odd-numbered night. Therefore, Muslims should make the most of the 23rd to seek the blessings, mercy, and forgiveness provided by the Night of Power.

The Islamic Calendar, or Hijri Calendar, differs from the Gregorian Calendar. This is because the Islamic Calendar follows the lunar year, whereas the Gregorian Calendar follows the solar year. The lunar year is around 11 to 12 days shorter than the solar one, meaning the dates of the Islamic Calendar will fall at different times during the solar year.
In 2023, it’s expected that the final 10 days of Ramadan will be from 12 April to 20 April, with the 23rd of Ramadan falling on 14 April. Despite this, this is subject to the moon sighting, meaning these dates could shift slightly.
Muslims have a duty to recite Dua regularly; however, they should increase these practices on the final 10 days of Ramadan. Written below is a Dua that’s often recited on the 23rd of the month:
O Allah, (please do) prolong my lifetime, expand my sustenance, make my body healthy, make me attain my hopes, and if I am written with the unhappy ones, (please) erase my name from this list, write it with the happy ones, for You have said in Your Book that You revealed to Your missioned Prophet, Your peace be upon him and his Household:
“Allah makes to pass away and establishes what He pleases, and with Him is the basis of the Book.”
As previously mentioned, the 23rd of Ramadan has the potential to be the Night of Power, meaning it could deliver the rewards of Laylat al-Qadr.

The 23rd of Ramadan has the potential to be the Night of Power, meaning Shia Muslims believe it to be the third Qadr Night of Ramadan. Due to this significance, an official nightlife worship ceremony called Ehya Night is held in Iran.
Although the Night of Power is among the most significant dates in the Islamic Calendar, it’s more of an observation than a celebration. As a result, Muslims engage in additional reflection and prayer to honour this night.
As it could well be the Night of Power, the 23rd of Ramadan donations are of great importance. Muslims should set out to give more on the 23rd of Ramadan, as good deeds during this time hold the same value as a thousand months of worshipping.
The 23rd of Ramadan is a special night of charity that falls within the final 10 days of Ramadan. For this reason, we encourage our donors to increase their 23rd of Ramadan giving.
